2010 Arts Management Conferences
Welcome to the website for Contemporary Issues in Arts Management. This year’s Conference will take place on 12th-16th April at Liverpool’s Contemporary Urban Centre. Each day, a range of papers will be presented by LIPA’s third year Management students on an issue that they feel is current or will affect the future of the music, theatre and entertainment industries. The Conference is the culmination of 10 weeks of discussion, debate and learning. Management students from Liverpool Institute of the Performing Arts have been priviledged to host 10 of the best managers in the music, theatre and entertainment industries to discuss contemporary issues affecting our industries. The full list of speakers can be accessed here, and include one of the managers of Radiohead, a major theatre producer, and the eponymous head of Borkowski PR.
This has been a really exciting year, and there are so many issues to be discussed, amongst them the proposed Digital Economies Bill, a potential change of government, the difficult economic climate, worries about climate change and the scramble for new business models to pay for music. Around us people say 'content is king' but find it difficult to know how monetise content; businesses want top people to work for them but find it difficult to pay for new employees. These are the environments within which our students and graduates find themselves; their understanding of these issues and their ability to navigate them will affect not only their employability but their ability to shape our industries in the future.
The conference week will touch on all of these issues and more. Those that attend will benefit not only from an insight into current issues affecting the arts, music and entertainment industries, but from a unique take on that from well informed students who have worked with the best and heard from the best.
